UGC NET Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must have completed or be in the final year of a 4-year UG course and/or completed a master’s degree from a UGC-recognized university.
- To be eligible, candidates must secure a minimum of 55% marks for the general category and 50% for reserved categories.
- Candidates from reserved categories get a relaxation of 5% in educational qualification. Those who qualified the SET before June 1, 2002, are exempted from the UGC NET exam.

UGC NET qualifying marks
Candidates are required to achieve more than the cut off marks in UGC NET examination. However the authority is selecting candidates as per cutoff marks, but the UGC decided the minimum passing marks for the examination where UR candidates have to score 120 marks out of 300 and reserved categories students have to achieve at least 105 marks out of 300 to be eligible for being evaluated for the examination.
University grant commission conducted the UGC NET examination for all three categories including JRF, assistant professor and PhD admission in a single term, but will allot them admission in different programs according to their marks.
Candidates who score higher rank (expected to) more than 209 will be selected for JRF. After that candidates who achieve Lower than JRF marks will be eligible to apply as a Assistant Professor in colleges. At the end, students who achieve lower than assistant professor cut off will be invited to in get admission in PhD programs in different colleges across the country.
